8-31 Dust to Dust


 

This dusty chamber has but a single painting of a withered looking corpse, painted upon the north wall. Its hands are stretched out to either side. The floor is covered with a fine gray powder.

  • Anyone entering or searching the room will kick the powder up. Anyone not holding their breath or using some sort of filter will breathe in the dust, requiring a save vs. death or take 2d20 damage from choking. Furthermore, they will have been inflicted with mummy rot, as if having been struck and infected by a mummy, with the usual effects.

This circular chamber has a domed roof. Every sound made here seems to echo and vibrate through the room.

  • Any sound made, including moving more than half speed through this chamber, is amplified and echoed out of the room, requiring an encounter check for every round the characters are not quiet.

8-29 Hall of Oppositions

 

This long hall has two sets of murals painted along the east and west walls. The wall to the east shows the collected armored elves of some group of woodland elves, while the wall to the west shows a similar collection of dark elves, in a subterranean realm.

8-27 Legs for Days


 

This macabre chamber has the walls decorated with legs. Some are skeletal, some are still fleshy, and they look to have been taken from a variety of beings, from human and demihuman, to monstrous, to animal. The severed legs are affixed to the walls with various metal hooks.

8-25 A Room of Distorted Mirrors

 


This room is lined with strange mirrors upon the walls. Similar to funhouse mirrors, these mirrors show distorted images of the person looking into them.

  • Once per day, a character may touch one of these mirrors if they dare. Doing so requires a saving throw vs. spells. If they fail, two of their ability scores are permanently switched at random. Roll 1d6 for each. 1 = Strength, 2 = Dexterity, 3 = Constitution, 4 = Intelligence, 5 = Wisdom, 6 = Charisma. If the same score shows up on both rolls, the character’s ability score is instead permanently changed. There’s a 50% chance it’s raised by 1 point to a maximum of 18, if not it is then lowered by 1 point, to a minimum of 3.

8-24 Information Booth


 

This peaceful chamber has a long desk along the southern wall, behind which, the elvish word for ‘Information’ is carved into the wall. A single push bell is affixed to the desktop.

  • Currently, nothing happens if the bell is rung, and the desk is empty. Feel free to roll for random encounters if players get obnoxious with the bell.

8-23 The Chamber of Ends

 


This chamber has walls that are scored with strange scrape marks, while the ground is littered with broken bones and broken pieces of armor and weapons.

  • There is nothing of value amid the equipment.
  • Anyone searching the room has a 1 in 6 chance of triggering the trap for each turn spent searching. This results in the door closing and locking, and the ceiling descending. The door lock may be picked by a thief or forced by a combined strength of 30. The ceiling takes 10 rounds to descend, once it is down to 4 rounds left, human sized characters may no longer stand up straight. They’ll begin taking 2d6 damage on round 9, and 10d6 damage on round 10 and subsequent rounds. The trap will reset itself after 24 hours.

8-22 Statue of the Multihit


 

A grand statue of an elven warrior looms large within this room. He appears to have eight arms, each bearing a different weapon, and has his visage carved into a stern look.

  • Any warrior type character who touches this statue gets a blessing that lasts for 24 hours. Any one round during that time frame, they may activate this blessing to make up to 2d4 melee attacks during a single round.
  • A character may only benefit from this blessing once per day.

8-21 Room of Ghostly Sages

 

This is a still well kept library. The bookshelves are well stocked with books on a variety of topics, as well as history and regional information all the way up to the current day. A set of ghostly looking figures in robes constantly drift between the shelves.

  • The ghostly sages are sentient illusions, they cannot be damaged by attacks, but can be dispelled. They speak any language, and can be used as research assistants. 
  • This room can be used for spell research, or to research topics as if consulting a sage.

8-20 Paraelia’s Lair

 

This ornate tomb area has various elvish religious symbols carved into the stone work. A set of archways lead into adjacent smaller tomb niches, while an old wooden coffin is raised upon a central dais, flanked by old stone candelabra.

Monsters: Paraelia (Spectre, casts spells as a 5th level Elf), 8 Wights

This large room was perhaps once the scene of long past battles. The floor is littered with the skeletal remains of several elves, their gear long corroded and decayed. The rusted remnants of weapons lie here and there upon the floor.

8-18 A Pair of Diabolic Statues


 

Two statues of winged demons stand facing one another against the east wall, their clawed hands raised above their heads. A portrait of a brass door surrounded by flames is hung upon the wall between them, facing the entrance.

  • Walking between the statues teleports a character to the matching room on level 12.

8-17 An Arched Hall

 

Two archways lead into a side hall that has its walls painted to resemble various scenes of battle, mostly depicting elves against monsters invading a forest.

  • Above each of the archways are suspended large, spiked iron balls upon chains, that are ‘obviously’ meant to swing down and strike anyone who enters once triggered. However, there are no trigger mechanisms. Instead, to each side of the small corridors leading into the room are pressure plates. When stepped on, they will trigger spikes to slide out of the painted walls upon anyone trying to skirt along the sides of the passages. These attack as 6 HD monsters and deal 2d6 damage on a hit.

8-14 Beastkeeper’s Lair


 

This cave has a crude bed of hides and straw stacked in one corner. There’s a wooden post to which are affixed several ropes.

  • The Beastkeeper lives here with a few of his pet warp beasts. It’s possible that he is attracted to any noise in the main cave.

The halls here give way to a large natural stone cave. It has been enlarged in some areas with broken off pieces of stone, while the floor is littered with scraps of bone and the smell of rotting meat.

8-11 Room of Coin Locker Chests


 

There are eight sturdy chests in this room, large and roomy, easily five foot wide, three foot deep, and three foot tall. Each one is numbered, and has a lock with a coin slot and a handle instead of a keyhole.

  • Each of the chests is wizard locked. A character placing a coin in the coin slot will be able to open the chest in question freely, for a duration dependent on the coin placed within the lock. This can allow for safe storage of gear or other material. 1 sp = 1 hour, 1 gp = 1 day, 1 pp = 1 week.
  • There is a 5% chance any particular chest already contains an object when the character opens it for the first time. Roll on the following table:

8-10 Dead End Room


 

This room has a number of skulls piled upon the walls, some simply stacked, some set into the stone work. They range from human to demihuman to monstrous. The floor in the center of the room is relatively clear.

  • One of the skulls set into the wall on the west acts like a handle to open the secret door there.
  • Stepping into the center of the room may trigger a pit trap there. The floor is set to tilt downward, then swing back up once enough weight has been placed in the middle. This drops any unfortunate victim into a 10’ deep pit, then seals them in from above. There’s a 1 in 6 chance of the trap triggering for any one person, but two or more people will automatically set it off.

8-8 Off Center Juncture


 

This room appears to have been some sort of information room. There’s scuff marks on the floor where a large desk might have once been set against the west wall, and the west wall is carved with all sorts of elven names, long with numbers that appear to be room numbers.

  • Among the elven names are simply elvish words for ‘Open’ and ‘Hidden’. If these two words are depressed, a central panel opens to allow access to the hall leading west.

8-7 Chamber of Flames


 

This forgotten, oddly shaped room is intensely hot. A long abandoned summoning circle is scribed into the floor, chiseled and lined with silver.

  • Although the summoning circle’s magics have faded, it may still be used for those spells that require a magic circle.

This dusty room has been concealed for some time. There are shelves along the walls set with dusty books on a variety of mundane subjects, while an easy pull chain allows access to the northern exit.

  • The treasure here is hidden among the shelves.

8-5 The Elevator


 

On the wall beside the door into this room is a button. If the elevator is on this floor, the door will be open. If it is not, then if the button is pushed, a glyph on the wall above it will glow softly, and after one round per floor it has to travel, the elevator will arrive, and the door will open.

  • Inside of the elevator, the numbers 6 to 9 are carved onto the wall. Touching one of the numbers will cause it to glow, and a horrible shudder will run through the room, as it noisily begins to move to the appropriate floor. The elevator may travel to levels 6, 7, 8, and 9.

8-4 Curtained Lair


 

This room has its walls concealed by heavy, black and red curtains, with black geometric patterns woven into them. It gives the entire chamber a stifling feel.

This chamber looks to be largely carved out of the stone, although the finishing touches that most of the rooms in this complex possess are not present. A few holy symbols have been carved into the walls.

8-2 A Pool of Fish


 

The center of this room contains a shallow, placid pool. It’s surrounded by a brief stone lip, some six inches wide and a foot off the ground. There are about a dozen large koi fish swimming lazily beneath the surface.

  • This pool always has a dozen koi within it. If any are removed, the next time the room is empty, it will replenish its stock.
