This oddly broad room looks like it was once used for storage, with wooden shelves lining the walls to either side. Although nothing now remains on the shelves, they are still sturdy and might be used again.

  • This room could be useful as a quest target.

3-29 The Cross Juncture

 


This once extravagant hall has murals depicting numerous demons standing before a hellscape that extends into the distance. The columns which criss-cross the chamber are shaped to resemble great stone arms reaching up to  support the ceiling far above.

A curtain separates this side room from the hall it is immediately adjacent to. It is a simple room with an open pit in the floor, that drops down into the darkness below.

  • This pit bypasses levle 4 and goes right to level 5. The fall is some 50'.

3-27 Brainbash Brothers

 


A large but otherwise simple room, there are four elegant columns, one in each of the corners. Two large tables are set out in the center of the room, along with associated benches, giving the impression of a mess hall. This place has likely seen better days, as it is currently littered with garbage.

  • This is where the Brainbash Brothers live. They are unruly and of violent temperament. They are willing to work for intruders who offer to hire them, but are just as likely to rob anyone who comes into their sight.

3-26 Curtained Niche

 


Curtains line the east and west walls of this room. Black and red, in a similar manner to other curtains found in these upper levels, the fabric is set out from the wall just enough to potentially provide a hiding spot.

  • These curtains may allow any character to hide behind them with a certain degree of success, but the fact that they can hide someone is obvious to anyone who looks at them.

This room has a series of stone benches along the outer wall. Each wall is decorated with murals depicting the interior of a cozy inn, complete with hearth and windows onto some fictional garden.

  • There are initially a group of bugbears resting here.

3-24 A Hall of Pillars and Statues

 


This hall has been lushly appointed. The walls are hung with tapestries depicting images of beautiful gardens and forests. Surrounded by columns in the center of the room is a mass of pillows, surrounding a low, round table. To the sides of the room, statues of various sorts have been pushed and stacked, mostly a scattering of bugbears and a few rats.

  • This is the lair of Trieste. She spends most of her time in this chamber, and is usually lounging within the middle. She wears a veil most times, and will not immediately attack unless threatened, being curious over what has brought the adventurers in. She will admire and be friendly with charismatic party members, and may express interest in them, but she is both demanding and unstable, so this may not last long.
  • If threatened, she will call two gargoyles who are hiding among the various statues in the room to her defense. In desperate times, she will use her potions to her benefit.

Monsters: Trieste (Longbow, 20 poisoned arrows (save or die after 1 turn/10 rounds), longsword), 2 gargoyles

This small juncture room houses a pair of hideous looking winged statues, perched on small raised ledge along the northern wall, facing the southern corridor.

  • The statues alert Trieste to anyone who goes through, and allow her to look through their eyes to get a view of any travelers.

This small juncture room houses a pair of hideous looking winged statues, perched upon a small raised ledge along the southern wall. They face the north corridor.

  • The statues are gargoyles, and will attack if anyone tries to open the western door. Passing through the north corridor and east door do not alert them or awaken them.

A simple stone staircase descends through the stone floor in this otherwise simple room. Upon the south wall, an inscription is carved large upon the stonework in elvish.

  • The inscription in the south wall reads: Authorized Personnel Only in elvish.
  • The stairs descend to level 4.

3-20 Odd Columned Room

 


This oddly shaped room has seen multiple changes in its structure over the years, as evidenced by the worn and scarred stone floor. The columns which stretch to the ceiling far above are elegant and well preserved, while the walls are painted to resemble ivy crawling up fine masonry.

  • The first time this room is entered on any particular expedition, make an immediate encounter check.

3-19 The Knight's Spear


 

In the center of this room, there is a statue of an armored elven warrior, dressed in the armaments of another age. In his stone hands, he holds a very real spear of high quality.

  • If the spear is taken from the statue's hands, the four doors surrounding the room seal shut, and it begins to fill with a gas. Characters must hold their breath, or make a save vs. poison each round the gas is inhaled. A failed save will inflict 1d4 damage. This must be repeated each round. The doors will remain sealed until either one of the doors is forced open, or something resembling the spear is placed back into the statue's hands. Any spear, polearm, or staff will do. The gas will take 2d4 minutes to dissipate once the doors are opened.
  • Once sealed, a given door in this room requires a combined strength of 30 to open. Up to two characters may try at any given door, unless reasonable justification is given to allow for more (a ram, a long prybar, etc). A knock spell will also work.

 This was once some sort of meeting room. There are scuff marks on the floor where benches or pews used to rest on the stone, but they have long been removed. The walls are covered with the ruins of a plaster underlayer that once backed mosaics. The mosaics themselves have long been removed.

3-17 The Pack Room

 


This large chamber has been converted into a makeshift storage room. Crates and barrels line he east wall, while the southwest corner of the room is occupied by a table and a few chairs.

This is where the non-wererat initiates of Snakkit's gang often congregate, being assigned guard duty over the stores.

One could potentially salvage a fair amount of ordinary supplies: food, rope, torches, flasks of oil, to be determined by the GM.

Monsters: 4 bandits (sword, shield, leather armor), 6 giant rats

3-16 The Alchemist's Laboratory

 


The main section of this room appears to be a fully equipped alchemical laboratory, with workbenches along the south wall. Three large vats dominate the northern section of this room, while archways lead into apparent supply rooms, filled with various reagents.

  • This room counts as an alchemy lab for those wo wish to use it and have the skills to make potions.

Monsters: The central vat actually contains a Black Pudding, which will become aggressive if disturbed.

Treasure: potion of control plant, potion of control undead, potion of diminution, potion of ESP, potion of fire resistance, potion of flying

A hole in the ceiling of this chamber allows access to the floors above, while a well in the floor disappears down into the darkness. The well itself has a stone lip around it, just a foot tall and six inches wide.

  • The hole upward allows access to Level 2 above, but the well below goes clear down to Level 6.

3-14 Mysterious Throne Room


 

This is a grand throne room. Three of the walls are lined with thick red and black curtains, similar to others which have decorated this compound. A large stone throne with velvet cushions faces the hall leading from the north, and is flanked by statues of two elven women in fine robes.

  • Massive stone throne is immobile, has a space beneath it to store treasure.
  • Statues are of elven women, both magic users. 

Monsters: Snakkit (Wererat, 5HD, Lvl 5 Thief abilities), 2 Wererats

Treasure: 4000 sp, 4000 ep, Snakkit is wearing leather armor +1 and is wielding a sword +1, +3 vs undead.

  • These archways still bear faintly visible magical seals, although they have been deactivated. It may be possible to repair them, which would enable each archway to project a field of force to deny passage.

3-9 A Pool Room

 


A large, shallow pool dominates the middle of this room. It is surrounded by a very short stone lip, only about six inches tall and a foot wide, while the pool itself is around two and a half to three feet deep  along the center.

  • Large pool, 2.5-3' deep.
  • Crocodiles in pool will only attack if agitated or disturbed. This includes people entering the water.

Monsters: 1 Large Crocodile, 2 Normal Crocodiles.

Treasure: 300 gp, 200 sp, and a ring of fire resistance lie scattered at the bottom of the pool.

This rather plain room has subtly curved stone walls. They are decorated with odd murals depicting wispy black shadows in an indistinct realm.

This is part of what was once a library. There are two large tables with sturdy wooden chairs in the middle of the room, while bookshelves line the southern wall. The northern wall is painted to resemble bookshelves.

Hidden away behind secret doors, this large room has walls lined with books, and a desk littered with ancient writing.

  • A secret door in the east can be opened via a remote latch hidden under the surface of the desk. The other two secret doors can only be opened from the rooms outside.

3-3 The Northern Library

 


This is part of what appears to have been a study or library. There are shelves still stocked with books and scrolls along the north wall, while the remnants of broken desks and tables lie scattered on the floor. The south wall is merely painted to resemble bookshelves.

  • Actual bookshelves along north wall, debris of desks and tables around floor.
  • South wall is painted to resemble bookshelves in room 3-5.
  • Secret door in the south wall of the room takes the form of a section of wall painted to resemble a bookshelf. It may be opened by a trigger book on the shelves in room 3-5.
  • A trigger book in the middle north bookshelf will open the secret door in room 3-5.

Monsters: 6 giant centipedes and a 4 HD insect swarm (of smaller centipedes) lurk hidden under the broken desks and tables, and will attack if disturbed.

Treasure: Scroll of protection from undead, scroll of  stone to flesh.

3-2 Statues of the Brothers

 


Two statues of elven men stands staring at one another within this room. Each one looks similar, but not identical to one another. Clad in matching robes, each has a wand drawn, and pointed at the other.

  • Two statues of elven magic users.
  • Standing between the statues requires a save vs spells, or the person or object doing so will suffer 3d6 electrical damage as lightning courses between the two wands. There is no limit to how many times this may be triggered, except that it may only be triggered once per round. Further, during any turn in which the trap is triggered, make an immediate encounter check to see if anything is attracted by the sound of the discharge.
